Ready to open Kartarpur Corridor despite tensions with India: Pakistan

The Kartarpur corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’s Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district and facilitate visa-free movement of Indian Sikh pilgrims

Current Affairs:-Pakistan on Friday said that notwithstanding strains with India, it stands prepared to open the Kartarpur Corridor and welcome the Sikh pioneers to participate in festivities regarding the 550th birth commemoration of Baba Guru Nanak.

Remote Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said this while addressing an appointment of common society and parliamentarians of Afghanistan, which is as of now visiting Pakistan for the ‘Track-II discourse, Beyond Boundaries’.

Pressure among India and Pakistan has heightened after New Delhi repudiated Article 370 of the Constitution which gave unique status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories on August 5.

“In spite of our pressures with India, we have chosen proceed with Kartarpur Corridor and we stand prepared to respect the Sikh explorers for the 550th commemoration of Baba Guru Nanak,” Qureshi told the assignment.

The Kartarpur hallway will associate Darbar Sahib in Pakistan’s Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak sanctum in Gurdaspur area and encourage sans visa development of Indian Sikh pioneers, who should simply acquire a grant to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which was built up in 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev.
