The court said it will not grant any stay on CAA without hearing the Centre on the matter

Current Affairs:The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave the Center a month to react to supplications testing the legitimacy of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and said it will set up a five-judge Constitution seat to hear the petitions.
While clarifying that it won’t concede any stay on the CAA without hearing the Center, a seat headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde controlled every single high court from hearing supplications on CAA till it chooses the petitions.
The seat said it will hear petitions relating to Assam and Tripura independently as the issue with CAA in these two states is not the same as rest of the nation.
“The petitions concerning Assam and Tripura just as issues identified with Uttar Pradesh, which is proceeding with the usage of CAA without surrounding any guidelines, can be managed independently,” the court said.
Lawyer General K Venugopal, showing up for the Center, told the seat that the administration has been given duplicates of around 60 supplications out of the 143 petitions.
He said it needed time to react to requests which have not been served on it.
Senior supporter Kapil Sibal encouraged the seat to put on hold activity of CAA and defer exercise of the National Population Register (NPR) for the present.
The court said it won’t concede any stay on CAA without hearing the Center on the issue.
