There were no quick reports of any death toll or harm to property, they said.
The quake happened at 10.31 am and the focal point was 250-km east of Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as indicated by the National Center for Seismology.
The profundity of the seismic tremor was 10-km, it said.
